If you’re a K-6 educator who wants to enjoy or improve your relationship with math, don’t miss the kick-off to MoMath’s new Math Teachers’ Circle, Roundtable. This summer intensive runs evenings for a full week and includes three evenings of engaging exploration and play that will heighten your appreciation of math. Plus, enjoy optional presentations from two of the nation’s most entertaining math presenters, Persi Diaconis and Art Benjamin. Whether you love math, want to love math, or would just settle for improving your relationship with math, this is the program for you!

Roundtable sessions

• Monday, July 31 - Mathematical Magic for Muggles with Paul Zeitz: Learn how the simplest of mathematical ideas, like "an odd plus an odd is even" and "x + -x = 0" can help us to craft magic tricks that seemingly bestow superhuman powers on us.  No skill required!

• Tuesday, August 1 - Compositions for Cavepeople with Josh Zucker: Counting the number of ways to decompose a number into sums is a fiendishly challenging puzzle.  Explore various ways to represent sums and the patterns that emerge from them, and see how changing our point of view can help us get started on a novel problem!

• Thursday, August 3 - Picking Points for Practitioners with Nat Stahl: Is there a relationship between area and perimeter?  Play with Geo boards and discover connections between boundaries and interiors — then see if you can prove them!

All sessions are from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm and will include a lighthearted, engaging approach to math, a shared meal, reflections on pedagogy, and the opportunity to make new friends.  Be among the first to sign up for all three sessions and receive a free MoMath t-shirt!  In addition, participants can enjoy priority seating at presentations from two of the nation’s most entertaining math presenters, Persi Diaconis and Art Benjamin.

Don’t miss this fun-filled week, and you’ll return to school energized about math!
