Volumes, the MoMath book club

Join MoMath at Volumes, the MoMath book club, on Thursday, March 8 to discuss The Man Who Loved Only Numbers: The Story of Paul Erdős and the Search for Mathematical Truth — author Paul Hoffman attending!

This masterful biography of Hungarian-born Paul Erdős is both a vivid portrait of an eccentric genius and a layman’s guide to some of this century’s most startling mathematical discoveries. A mathematical genius of the first order, Paul Erdős was completely obsessed with his subject, thinking and writing about mathematics for nineteen hours a day all while living out of a plastic bag. Paul Hoffman, in this marvelous biography, gives us a vivid and strangely moving portrait of this singular creature, one that brings out not only Erdős’s genius and his oddness, but also his warmth, sense of fun, and joyfulness about math and life.
